All four of our Kriger athletes showed up strong in this weekend’s Semifinals, delivering solid performances across the board. For Seher Kaya, though, it was a near miss in the race for a Games spot.

Seher Kaya

Only 8 points separated Kaya from a Games ticket at the Far East Throwdown in Busan, South Korea. Instead, it was Mexico’s Mariana Meza who secured the crucial 2nd place.

What proved decisive for Kaya were two “back to back” 8th-place finishes in Events 3 and 4. The first was a 1 RM Clean & Jerk, where Kaya lifted 106kg, which is a solid lift, but in a field full of top lifters, it wasn’t quite enough.

The following event was “Grace,” consisting of 30 Clean & Jerks at 43kg. Kaya pushed hard and clocked a time of 1:22. This as well, a solid result, but some of her toughest competitors had slightly faster cycle speed, resulting in another 8th-place finish.

Although Kaya picked up event wins in both Event 2—featuring Rowing, Bar Muscle-Ups, Dumbbell Snatches, and Walking Lunges, and in the final event, consisting of Wall-Facing Handstand Push-Ups, Deadlifts, and the Echo Bike, weren’t enough to move her up to a qualifiying spot.

Morten Rasch Arnesen from Gjøvik competed in the men’s division and finished in 13th place

Our german machine, Verena Evelyn Reimers, also a Kriger athlete, was in action as well this weekend. In Brisbane, Australia, at the Torian Pro, she faced off against several top athletes. Despite a rough start to the competition, with a poor placement in an event that included running, Bar Muscle-Ups, and Squats, Reimers bounced back impressively.

She ultimately finished in a solid 17th place after taking 8th in the final event, which featured Ring Muscle-Ups and a Farmer’s Carry. In that event she finished ahed of former Games athletes like Emily De Rooy and Grace Walton.

Willem Snyman were also competing in this weekends Semifinals. At the Rebel Renegade Games on his home turf in South Africa, he placed 23rd, just behind 2018 CrossFit Games bronze medalist, Swedish athlete Lukas Högberg. This is a personal best for Snyman, who finished 26th in the 2023 Semifinals.

Seher Kaya

Bare nesten for Seher
